How it works

Three steps. One rule: be there.

Hot Spots runs quietly in the background and only lights up when you're physically near another verified student.

1

Verify you're GCU

Sign in with your GCU email through Microsoft. Real students only. No catfish, no bots, no creeps from three states away.

2

Live your life

Go to class, the gym, the dining hall, or a party. Hot Spots works in the background and notices who you genuinely cross paths with.

3

Cross paths, then connect

Come near another student and you both show up in each other's paths. Say hi, make a friend, or more. You already shared a room. Now close the distance.

Proximity is the whole point

Other apps show you a thousand strangers you'll never meet. Hot Spots only shows you people you were genuinely near, from your classes, your buildings, your scene. Real people you'd actually run into.

Spotlight, if you want it

Opt in to the daily Spotlight board and see who's catching the most likes on campus this week. It's a game you choose to play, ranked by real likes, refreshed every day. Pure FOMO, fully your call.

Opt-in only

You control who reaches you

No surprise DMs from strangers, no spam. Connections open through crossing paths, on your terms. Hot Spots shows you crossed paths after the fact, never your live location.

Your campus, not the internet

Everyone on Hot Spots is a verified GCU student. The people you cross paths with sit two rows over, live in your building, or were at the same event last night.

The unfair advantage

Hot Spots lights up at every event.

Most social apps are empty maps. Hot Spots is built by a team that fills rooms with live events for a living. Every event becomes a live hotspot where the app lights up and the whole crowd is right there with you.

Safe by design

Built for real people, not predators.

A proximity app has to earn trust. We designed Hot Spots around it from day one.

No live location

You only ever see that you crossed paths, after the fact. Never where someone is right now.

Verified students

GCU email plus photo verification. Everyone is who they say they are.

You control your inbox

No messages from strangers out of nowhere. You decide who can reach you.

One-tap block

Block and report instantly. Consent-first Spotlight, nobody ranked without opting in.

Questions

The stuff you're wondering.

Who can join Hot Spots?

Verified GCU students who are 18 and over. You sign in with your GCU email through Microsoft, so everyone on Hot Spots is a real, current student.

How do you know people are real?

Two checks. Your GCU email confirms you're a student, and an AI photo match ties your face to your Instagram for the verified check. Real faces, no bots, no catfish.

Does Hot Spots track my location?

Hot Spots uses proximity to notice when you cross paths with someone, but your live location is never shown to anyone, ever. You only see that you crossed paths, after the fact, never where a person is right now.

How is this different from other apps?

Hot Spots only shows you people you were physically near, on your own campus, plus what's actually happening around you. No endless feed of strangers, no bots, no one three states away. It's your real-life circle, not the internet.

What does it cost?

Joining and connecting are free. Hot Spots+ is an optional upgrade for extras like unlimited priority and your full crossed-paths history. You never have to pay to meet people.

When does it launch?

Hot Spots opens at GCU first. Join the waitlist and we'll text you the moment you're in. Founding members get in first and keep founding perks.

Is it safe?

Safety is built in. No live location, verified students only, messaging you control, one-tap block and report, opt-in Spotlight, and a one-strike ban policy for anyone who breaks the rules.

What if the people I want aren't on it yet?

Invite them. Hot Spots gets better the more of your circle joins, and inviting friends earns you perks. Your circle is smaller than you think, and bigger than you can imagine.
